St. Paul's Hostel for Girls
Dr Daniel Abraham, began a ministry among lepers in a small place called Champa, Central India. He was moved by the living conditions of the lepers there and this led him in the year 2000 to start the St. Paul’s Hostel for Girls in Dehradun. This hostel started with the purpose of looking after children from leprosy affected homes and aims at providing education to girls from backward communities.
It began with 20 children and in the following year 2001 Hindi medium schooling was provided for the children at the hostel. Gradually the number of children kept increasing. This led to some practical problems and the hostel was shifted to Samrala, Punjab in 2005. In 2007, the hostel focused on keeping girls due to the growing problem of gender discrimination in society. At present the hostel has around 100 girls from ages 5- 16 who are now provided with English medium education up to class 12.
The aim of St. Paul’s Hostel for Girls is to see that it provides every child the opportunity to reach their full potential and is looking forward to reach out to other marginalised communities as and when we raise up the required funds.
