Enroute to a
Bright Future
Shama, Bharti and Mamta
Shama, Bharti and Mamta were brought to the ashram when they were just 5-7years old. All the three come from different leper colonies. Mamta’s parents earn a living by begging, Shama was abandoned by her parents and Bharti had a difficult childhood. The three successfully completed their high school with good grades and wanted to study nursing. So they got the wonderful opportunity to join nursing colleges. Mamta has joined in the Lehman Hospital Nursing school, Herbetpur, Dehradun. Bharti and Shama got placed in Francis Newton Hospital and Nursing College, Ferozepur, Punjab. They have now completed their nursing degrees.
“Now I am able to stand on my feet and am working at a hospital in Jalandhar. I thank God for helping me in every way.”
"I am from Ambala and I joined St. Paul’s Hostel as a small girl of 7 years. When my father passed away some time later, my mother took me out of the hostel to live with her in Hyderabad. But I was very unhappy as I was not allowed to go to school and my mother was forcing me to marry an elderly man. Somehow I manage to make my way back to Ambala and back to the hostel. George (Pappa) and Ann (Mummy) very Kindly took me back and helped me complete my class 12. After this they also helped me to do my General Nursing Course from Francis Newton Hospital & Nursing College, Ferozepur, Punjab. Now I am able to stand on my feet and am working at a hospital in Jalandhar. I thank God for helping me in every way."
